Mirabelle – fabulous brass accessories

Mirabelle, FashionBite 3Mirabelle, FashionBiteMirabelle, FashionBiteBrass jewellery is my new accessory obsession, and so I was thrilled to find fairtrade brand Mirabelle.

Founder Veronique Henry is the daughter of a Parisian silversmith, with a passion for South-East Asia; expressed through her collections, which feature vibrant gems and a range of regional flora and fauna worked into her designs.

Best of all, Mirabelle jewellery is created using materials sourced from fairtrade suppliers. Pieces are made from sterling silver, (my favourite) brass, semi-precious stones, mother of pearl, wood and shell.

For me, gold jewellery is a little too stark – I prefer a toned-down shade. The muted colouring of brass jewellery gives it an antique look.

I recently bought the brass Mirabelle Seahorse Pendant, with an amethyst stone, from fashion boutique Black Truffle, which is where I first spotted the brand. However, after a birthday day out, and a few too many Vodka and Tonics, I carelessly dropped the chain down my wooden floorboards.

The next day I went onto Mirabelle’s website (www.mirabellejewellery.co.uk), on the hunt for a replacement, and quickly formed a mental wish-list featuring other items in the collection. Among my favourites, on the website, are the Turtle Pendant with Shell (£39.00), Tree of Life with Garnet necklace (£39.00), and the Bird-Charm bangle (£24.00).

Prices range from around £15 to £70, and so the brand is perfect for adding a special touch to outfit without spending a fortune.

NEW BOUTIQUE – Melvita opens up in Putney, South West London

Melvita opens up in Putney, FashionBiteFrench organic beauty brand Melvita is continuing its UK expansion by opening a second store, this time in Putney, South West London.

The new shop, which was opened by radio personality and author Janey Lee Grace last Thursday, follows the successful launch of its store in St Martin’s Courtyard, Covent Garden, last November.

Like the brand’s Covent Garden location, the Putney branch has a distinct personality. It features a living plant-covered wall and glass ceiling, as well as a communal area fitted with a chalk board and book collection, to help shoppers feel at home in the store.

Earlier this month, Melvita harped back to founder Bernard Chevilliat’s bee-keeping past by installing bee hives on the roof of its Covent Garden store.

Chevilliat originally created the brand’s products using the honey collected from his farm in France.

The Melvita City Apiary will be a permanent fixture in the St Martin’s Courtyard roof garden, above the store.

In February, FashionBite attended Melvita’s birthday party at London’s Century Club, to celebrate the brand’s first year in the UK.

At the event, the brand announced plans to launch a host of new ranges in the UK including suncare, face care and quintessential oil collections. In May, it will unveil its Algascience Slimming Oil and Exfoliating Scrub.

The L’Occitane-owned brand sells over 300 beauty and skincare products in the UK.

Angelina Jolie tipped as new face of Louis Vuitton

Angelina Jolie tipped as new face of Louis VuittonThe rumour mill has chugged into overdrive as – after a lovely, hot, summery, BBque-filled Easter break- I’m back to the news that Angelina Jolie has been hotly tipped as the new face of luxury brand Louis Vuitton.

Following in the footsteps of Jennifer Lopez and Madonna, the Hollywood actress is understood to have secured a $10 million deal for a print-only ad campaign shot by the photographer Annie Liebovitz.

It will be Jolie’s most high-profile modelling job in recent years. She was previously the face of the more conservative US brand St John from 2005-2008, until she was replaced by redhead supermodel Karen Elson.

Elson actually appeared alongside supermodels Christy Turlington and Natalia Vodianova in a movie-star inspired AW10 ad campaign for Louis Vuitton, see FashionBite’s post Louis Vuitton’s New AW10 Ad Campaign: FIRST LOOK.

A tie-up with Louis Vuitton’s creative director Marc Jacobs is definitely a notch up the fashion ladder for Jolie.

Summer Beach Special – Holiday Hair

Rock inspired waves, holiday hair, FashionBite 1Rolled faux bob, holiday hair, FashionBite 2On-trend plait, holiday hair, FashionBiteLooking for summer holiday hair inspiration? FashionBite has teamed up with Air France for a ‘How To Holiday Hair Guide’ to get those key summer looks.

The word from the Paris runway this year was ‘easy glamour,’ with models sporting romantically undone, natural styles characterised by a rough centre parting and tousled texture. The classic bun deconstructed into a messy ‘up do’ was another style staple  – the perfect accessory to any stylish summer look.

At London Fashion Week, three key hair looks rocked the runways and FashionBite gives you the run-down on how to Get The Look…

SEVENTIES-ROCK

It’s time to embrace the past with a 70’s revival – voluminous movement and tousled textures. Think combinations of disco fever flicks, un-kempt grunge lengths, and shaken up rock inspired waves. The trick is to keep it young, keep it fun and definitely keep it stylish.

As seen at… Giles Deacon, Betty Jackson and Jean-Pierre Braganza.

How to get rock-inspired waves:

• Prep the hair with extra strong mousse and blast dry to build texture
• Section the hair into two across the head at the crown
• Tong the front section in small sections away from the face with a centre parting and pin to set
• Tong the back upwards in larger sections and pin
• Just before you go out, take out pins and brush through, creating flicks and lift, secure using a hold and gloss spray

BEATNIK BOB

Vintage ‘worn-in’ styles create the ultimate elegant, night-time look. Pre-Raphaelite lengths romantically tucked behind ears with flirting wisps and 1920’s Marcel waves tumbling loosely around the neck line are firm favourites. For the ultimate period finish, regal and rolled ‘faux bobs’ with strong centre partings were seen in both London and Paris.

As seen at… Maria Francesca Pepe, Krystof Stroznya, Spijkers en Spijkers and Hermione de Paula.

How to get a rolled faux bob:

• Blow-dry the hair smooth using a volume mousse and place a strong centre parting in the hair
• Section the hair at the radial, take the front section and loop over ears and secure using elastic at the back of the head
• The remaining hair is rolled under and pinned into a ‘faux bob’ shape
• Finish with a shine mist and hairspray

TWISTED PLAIT

Up-do’s are a must-do this season and braids/plaits came in all shapes and sizes on the catwalks- knotted, tangled, twisted and pinned into gravity defying shapes. From distressed static textures for that effortless Rapunzel style to modern knots for a sleek sculptured look – it’s the season to do the twist.

As seen at… Todd Lynn, Bora Aksu, Eudon Choi and Prophetik

How to get a distressed on-trend plait:

• Prep hair with a volume mousse and roughly dry to build texture
• Divide hair in two uneven sections and plait both from the back of the head forwards, close to the scalp and secure
• Distress the plait with the fingers to emphasise the texture
• Finish with a light coating of a hairspray and shine spray

Nivea teams up with ASOS for launch of new Invisible Black & White deodrant

Sponsored Post

Nivea.Asos competition 1

ASOS has joined forces with Nivea for the launch of its new Black & White invisible deodrant.

The deodrant is being touted as ‘the answer to deodrant stains,’ with white marks on black clothes becoming a thing of the past. The technology used also helps prevent yellow stains that can develop over time due to a mixture of deodorant, sweat and washing powder.

To celebrate the launch of this new product, ASOS has designed a capsule range of four minimal ‘Black & White’ dresses. The collection features two ’60’s inspired shift dresses, a midi sheer black dress and a white skater skirt dress. Monochrome dominated the SS11 catwalks, so this collection hits all the seasonal trend boxes.

Nivea. Asos competition, fashionbite

For a chance to win this collection, simply enter the ASOS/Nivea competition at Invisible for Black & White . You just need to style up one of the dresses with a choice of four accessories and you could win this fab summer wardrobe.

I opted to accessorise the white skater skirt dress with bold, cobalt blue shoes (above top). So, why not enter and you could win your summer party dress wardrobe?

The competition closes on May 31…good luck!

I was interviewed for a story (written from the boyfriend’s point of view) about what it’s like having a partner working in fashion. I’m not quite sure I agree with everything he said..my Pat Butcher coat..ha ha!?! But it was fun to do and great to get FashionBite featured in a national magazine.
